COMMUNITY
Longrain understands and embraces the opportunity it has to make
a positive difference in the local and global community and our impact on the environment. We are proud to support a number of official charities, charity events and community projects which share our vision.
StreetSmart Australia
StreetSmart is a unique bridge between the community and small, grassroots agencies that assist people experiencing homelessness. Longrain’s Director Sam Christie is a StreetSmart Ambassador. For the six weeks in the lead-up to Christmas, StreetSmart partners with restaurants to ask diners to make a small donation to StreetSmart on their bill. Every table is asked to add $2 or more to their bill. It’s a simple idea that adds up to a big impact on the lives of people who are homeless.
StreetSmart Ambassador and Director of Longrain, Sam Christie was a Front of House All Star at The sold-out StreetSmart Front Of House All Stars event was held on Sunday 13th March 2011 at Ladro in Melbourne. The team raised just over $20,000.

The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation
The Bobby Goldsmith Foundation is Australia's longest-running HIV charity. Established by a dedicated group of Bobby Goldsmith's friends in 1984, the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation has helped thousands of men, women and children living with HIV.
Their mission is to help people living with HIV (PLHIV) by providing practical, emotional and financial support. The kind of ongoing, unconditional support that usually only friends and family would provide.
Longrain donated dinner for 2 people for the 5th BGF Auction held at Otto Ristorante on Wednesday 6th of April 2011.
The auction turned out to be a very enjoyable evening for all who attended. Longrain's voucher achieved a price of $1,600 that contributed to the fantastic result of $63,000
Starlight Children's Foundation Australia
Sydney’s premier food and wine charity evening the Starlight Five Chefs dinner was a smash hit on Thursday 3rd June 2010 raising in excess of $500,000 for seriously ill kids. There were plenty of great auction items but the most popular selling for a RECORD $25,000 was the opportunity for someone to host 10 people at their home with all the food cooked by our own Martin Boetz. Martin has offered this dinner each year for the past five chefs dinners and as a result of this year’s stellar effort (which is double the previous best price) he has helped raise around $75,000 for the Starlight Five Chefs dinners – all on his own.
Chairman of the Sydney Five Chefs Committee Stu Gregor said “Marty’s at home dinner was far and away the most popular item auctioned all night – the bidding was ferocious, and $25,000 is more than anyone has ever paid for any chef to cook at their home. We love Longrain, Starlight loves Longrain, everyone loves Longrain."

GM- Free Chefs Charter | Greenpeace Australia Pacific
Longrain is opposed to serving genetically modified (GM) foods in our restaurants.
We aim to protect the quality, diversity and the flavour of food we serve. To do so we need to be positive that what we put on plates represents the best Australia has to offer. To do otherwise is to risk not only the well being of our clientele, but also the well being of our nation.
Because of the untested long-term risks associated with the growing and consumption of GM foods, we are strongly opposed to serving them – or ingredients derived from GM products – in our restaurants”

KOTO Hanoi
The concept of KOTO began on the streets of Hanoi in 1996 when an Australian Vietnamese man, Mr Jimmy Pham, asked a group of street kids what they wanted out of life. They simply replied, "we need skills so we can find stable jobs" and so the concept of KOTO was born.
"KOTO is about creating a safe environment where a small group of extremely vulnerable young people can learn and grow - because through education and skills comes empowerment and the path to a brighter future."
Longrain has provided training and work experience for KOTO graduates every year for the last 3 years.
