Longrain farewells Surry Hills
Longrain Sydney in Surry Hills closed its doors on 30 June 2019 to explore new opportunities.
Longrain Melbourne and Tokyo will continue business as usual. "Leaving Surry Hills gives us an opportunity to explore other sites and slightly reset the vision," said Sam Christie. With almost 20 years of trade under its belt, operating from the same site he said Longrain's end of lease on Commonwealth Street felt like an opportunity and new beginning for the restaurant.
You can always head to Melbourne and Tokyo for your Longrain 'fix' before Longrain Sydney reopens
Sam Christie opened the ground-breaking Thai restaurant Longrain in August 1999, with Chef Martin Boetz in the kitchen. In 2005 Longrain spread its wings to Little Bourke Street in Melbourne, and in August 2017 Longrain opened a Japanese outpost in the Ebisu district of Tokyo, with business partners Transit. Longrain's 20 years on Commonwealth Street has made it a Sydney dining institution.
